Surgery Times

The surgery is open 8.30am-12.30pm and 1.30-6.30pm. We are closed at all other times including weekends and public holidays. Monday to Friday between 8.00-8.30am and 12.30-1.30pm, you can contact the surgery via an emergency telephone line. This is for medical problems that cannot wait until we open fully. Please see the Out-of-Hours Emergency Service below for details of how to obtain urgent medical assistance if required.

Extended Hours

Burnham Medical Centre offers a limited number of GP apointments outside normal working hours. These appointments are not for emergencies or to see a nurse, they are dedicated to those patients who have difficulty attending during our normal opening hours.

Please be aware that it is possible for the doctor to book these appointments more than two days in advance.

During extended opening hours the front door will be locked. Please ring the doorbell for access.

BMC telephones will not be manned during extended opening hours. Staffing levels during extended opening hours mean that you will NOT be able to collect prescriptions at these times unless you are attending for a booked appointment.

Appointment Times

If you are uncertain which days your doctor has appointments available, enquire from a receptionist. We also have a list of available doctors for the day displayed on the noticeboard, by the main entrance, outside of the building.

Out-Of-Hours Emergency Service (6.30pm-8.00am)

The surgery is closed from:

Monday to Friday 6.30pm to 8.00am next morning; Friday 6.30pm to Monday 8.00am; including all Public Holidays.

If you need urgent medical assistance please telephone 0845 408 8000.

Your call will be answered by a nurse, who will take some details and then suggest one of the following options:

  • Offer the patient advice over the telephone from a nurse or doctor, as appropriate
  • Advise the patient to go to a primary care treatment centre
  • Send a doctor, nurse or paramedic to the patient's home. (This will depend upon the nature and seriousness of the patient's condition.)
  • In the case of a critical medical emergency the nurse will telephone 999 on the patient's behalf

We would also like to remind you that NHS Direct, the 24-hour health information service, remains a quick and convenient way of obtaining information on minor ailments. To contact NHS Direct call 0845 46 47.
